Do you remember Santiago? The two of us. Our backs to the wall. I will never forget what you did. (...) You are still the same man. You will do what is necessary. Stay strong, my friend. We've come so far. We are so very close.
― Gustavo reassuring Peter.[src]

Peter Schuler is the head of the fast food division of Madrigal Electromotive GmbH, the parent company of Los Pollos Hermanos and was a close associate of Gustavo Fring and Lydia Rodarte-Quayle.

History[]

Background information[]

Little is known of Peter's early life other than that he was born in Germany. At one point, he met Gustavo Fring in Santiago, Chile and together the two were able to escape from an unknown, dangerous situation when backed against a wall, becoming close associates as a result. ("JMM")

Peter Schuler was hired by Mr. Herzog in 1992 at Madrigal Electromotive GmbH. According to Herzog, Schuler “almost singlehandedly grew our little restaurant division into an industry leader, and a source of great personal pride.” ("Madrigal")

Peter remained in contact with Fring and using his position at Madrigal, substantially invested in Fring's Los Pollos Hermanos chain of restaurants, and thus assisted in forming and operating his meth distribution network and profiteered greatly from Gus' successful operation. The two at some point brought Lydia Rodarte-Quayle into their secret business.

In 2004, Peter provided the financial means for Gustavo to construct a secret, underground meth lab.

Better Call Saul[]

Season 5[]

Gus attends a meeting of the CEOs of Madrigal's restaurant chains, a meeting chaired by Peter. He reports his restaurant's quarterly earnings and also invites them to taste a brand new product "Spice Curls", which pleases Peter.

That evening, Gus convenes with Peter and Lydia in a hotel suite. Peter is worried about the delays in building the Superlab and tells that it will be difficult for him to get further funding with how close he's come to getting caught. Gus assures him that things will be smoothed out, and reminds him of the situation which happened in Santiago where their backs were on the wall but Peter managed to get Gus indebted to him. Talk turns to how they'll deal with Lalo. Lydia suggests that they arrange for Lalo to be shanked in jail, an idea Gus shoots down on the grounds that such circumstances would cast suspicion on him for Lalo's death. ("JMM")

Season 5[]

After the assassination of Gus, the DEA begins investigating Madrigal Electromotive. In Hannover, Germany, when the police arrive to question him about his relationship with Gus, Peter locks himself in a toilet and commits suicide by electrocution from an automated defibrillator.

The CEO of Madrigal, Mr. Herzog, later told the DEA that he assumed Peter was guilty, but that he was likely the only one at Madrigal who knew of the meth business; however, if this was untrue, he wanted to find the others immediately. ("Madrigal")
